This week, I am bursting with pride as our daughter graduates from McGill University! 🎉
Her journey has been one of perseverance and resilience. From overcoming multiple concussions to navigating the challenges of COVID—and everything else life threw her way—she has shown extraordinary strength and determination.
These experiences have not only shaped her into the incredible person she is today but have also given her lifelong skills that will guide her in any challenge she faces ahead.
As a parent, watching your child struggle can be heart-wrenching. We struggle alongside them—whether from close by or afar. We learn to let go and allow them the space to learn from their mistakes and overcome obstacles on their own. It’s not easy. It’s tempting to jump in and fix things, but the growth and confidence that come from overcoming challenges independently are invaluable.
This parenting lesson translates beautifully to leadership. In both roles, we must:
- Provide space for learning and growth.
- Accept mistakes as part of the process.
- Support resilience by encouraging perseverance.
As leaders—whether at home or at work—it’s essential to resist the urge to fix every problem.
Instead, we guide, trust, and empower those we lead to find their way. The results? Growth, independence, and strength that build lasting success.
To my daughter, congratulations again. You’ve taught me as much as I’ve tried to teach you. ❤️
