“I’ve struggled so much with defining purpose. It’s always been abstract. Now it’s unlocked. Thank you, Miki!”
That was one of the notes I received after the CORE Leadership session I led at Salesforce last week. There were others with a similar sentiment.
Over time, we have placed intense pressure, especially on Millennials and Gen Z, to identify their purpose. Many have felt overwhelmed by this grand, elusive expectation to “find” it.
Careers became a source of stress when they were expected to deliver one’s purpose.
Searching for hidden purpose can turn into a never ending, exhausting quest rather than focusing on actionable, present day choices.
In the talk, I introduced CORE.
Clarify is about gaining clarity on your values, priorities, strengths, and what success means to you.
It helps you define who you want to be and connect to your purpose.
Operationalize is about turning that intention into action. Here we look at the actions and habits that demonstrate our values and priorities.
When you clarify your values and priorities, and then operationalize them into small actions, you start living your purpose.
It isn’t something distant. It’s something you live through your choices and actions.
You don’t need to find it. You align with it.
For those in the room searching for their purpose, the impact was clear.
I could see the shift. The moment it clicked.
Instead of illusive purpose quest, there was a practical way forward.
People connect with CORE in different places.
Each person finds the piece that was missing for them.
Seeing that impact brings me great joy.
If you’re searching for your purpose, start by getting clear on your values. Then ask: how can I put those into action?
